2019 TBR List

If you’re anything like me then you probably have about a zillion unread books sitting on your bookshelf and yet constantly feel a strong urge to buy more (and more and more and more and more and…).
I loooooove to read but often get too caught up with other things to actually do it as much as I’d like. If you’re familiar with the app ‘Goodreads’ then you’ll know that you can set yourself a target of how many books you wanna read a year. This year I set myself the goal of 50 and I’ve managed 12 (FAIL!).

My TBR list is ever-growing but here are just a few of the books that I plan to read in the new year!

  • Wonder by R.J. Palacio

“My name is August.

I won’t describe what I look like.

Whatever you’re thinking,

it’s probably worse.”

I’m gonna be honest and say that I have no clue what this book is gonna be like, it was kinda one of those ‘shit I need to make my Amazon basket up to £20 for free delivery’ buys but nonetheless I’m buzzing to give it a read!

  • Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

“They killed my Mother.

They took our magic.

They tried to bury us.

Now we rise.”

This book gives me chills just looking at it (good chills). I saw it at the airport when I was going on my summer holidays and snapped a pic so I could buy it when I got home. I love these dark books about magic and revenge so I can’t wait to read this!

  • A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge

“We see ghosts. And they are drawn to us.

Sometimes, when a person dies, their spirit goes looking for somewhere to hide. Some people have space within them, perfect for hiding.

Makepeace has learned to defend herself from the ghosts that try to possess her in the night, desperate for refuge- but one day a dreadful event causes her to drop her guard.

Now she has a spirit inside her. The spirit is wild, angry and strong, and it may be her only defence when she is sent to live with her father’s cruel and powerful ancestors. But as she plans her escape to a country torn apart by civil war, Makepeace must decide which is worse: possession- or death.”

It was actually the cover that caught my eye in the bookstore, and when I read the blurb I was instantly sold! This is just the kinda book I like to read so I’m hoping it is as great and I think it will be!

  • Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

“Eleanor Oliphant leads a simple life. She wears the same clothes to work every day, eats the same meal deal for lunch every day and buys the same two bottles of vodka to drink every weekend.

Eleanor Oliphant is happy. Nothing is missing from her carefully timetabled existence. Except, sometimes, everything…”

Okay… confession time: I didn’t read the blurb of this book until I had to type it out just now for this blogpost. I bought this book simply because I saw a lot of people (both on the internet and off it) reading it and it seemed to be a hit. I can’t wait to see what all the hype is about for myself!

Of course, I plan to read far more than just these 4 books in 2019 but these are just some I thought I’d share with y’all!

Have you read any of these books? Do you have a 2019 TBR list? Do you have Goodreads? If so, leave your username below! I’d love to add some new people on there!

Until next time…

C.
