So one of my new years resolutions is to go on more adventures. This doesn’t necessarily mean that I have to jump on a plane and travel halfway across the world though, I can have adventures closer to home. Adventures don’t have to be big and extravagant, they can be simple and small (I would consider a late might trip to McDonald’s if I was with the right people). One place that is about a 20 minute drive from my house is Banagher Dam and today I decided to go on a lil’ adventure there with my brother, cousin and dog. Although we didn’t travel far and wide for this adventure, it was so fun and beautiful! Today, the sun was shining and the air was refreshing and crisp.
My brother had never been to the dam before, and it was fun watching him explore and discover all of the lil’ nooks and crannies hidden within the walk.
Its a six mile walk, three up and three down. This doesn’t sound like much of a challenge, but believe me, its all uphill and you can fairly feel it on your legs a few hours later (thank goodness I had my trusty dog to help pull me along). Walks like this work in well with my other resolution to do more exercise, so its a win-win situation!
When you reach the top, though, you realise that all the hard work to get there was sooo worth it. The view is breath taking and you have a real sense of accomplishment (well, I did anyway).
Walks like this one are my favourite kind. They provide me with a good opportunity to actually listen to my thoughts. It may seem cheesy, but this six mile hike was one of self-discovery… it cleared my mind and I feel like I’m ready to head back to school now and focus on my studies. I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into today’s adventure!
Do you enjoy walking outdoors? How do you clear your mind of negativity?
Until next time…
